Alessandra Lentini, Time in a Bottle, Video8 Cassette

     Time in a Bottle explores the ideas of nostalgia and change and borrows its name from the Jim Croce song. Filmed with her parents’ camcorder from the 90’s, Alessandra juxtaposes old home videos with new ones to create a familiar atmosphere. Nostalgia creates a version of the past that we want to remember by filtering out bad memories and experiences. Today, as we live through a global pandemic, small precious moments can easily go unnoticed. Alessandra takes these little slices of life and makes something memorable out of them.

     Alessandra Lentini is an artist working mainly in ink and watercolor. Her work focuses on the beauty of everyday life and making art out of ordinary things. As a former architecture student who grew up in NJ, her work features many buildings and structures in the surrounding area. With this piece, she focuses on the themes of nostalgia and the lived experience.
