Grieving Mythology Painting on Wall.jpg

Emily Slane, Grieving Mythology, Acrylic on canvas, 24"x30”

The goal of this work is to draw connections between ancient Greek mythology and contemporary art through the theme of grief, using grief as a common human experience. My work is meant to show symbols from myths featuring grief and connecting them to loss we feel towards ourselves as we grow, leaving certain places in our existence behind.

My name is Emily Slane, I am 21 years old and I am a mixed media artist. My favorite medium to work with is paint, but I also enjoy charcoal, and ceramics. I hope to become an art teacher in the future so that I can encourage other students to pursue art and any of their interests to the fullest extent. I also hope to use my art to creatively exhibit various subjects, including mythology, marine life, and portraits.
